Are Plastics Entering Human Chain?

With the growing amount of waste in water bodies which means they are entering the systems of aquatic animals and these are consumed by us humans. These bits of plastic have been determined in the faces of people in countries such as Russia and Japan and also Europe according to researchers. Before, the highest amount of these dangerous microplastics were found in their stomachs and intestines and lesser amount in their blood and liver.

Before understanding the deadly consequences of  these microplastics entering the human chain where did it all start?

With the plastic required as a building base material for every industry be it automobile, machinery appliances etc the amount of waste it is generating is also in large quantities which has led to the dumping of these plastic into the water bodies and the marine animals take them into their bodies which are eaten by humans. Over the years, because of the technology, the manufacturing of plastic has become affordable as well. Over eight million tonnes of plastic is disposed in the oceans every year and by 2050 it is estimated to be more plastic than fish in the oceans. The oceans now a days are filled with patches of plastics such as Indian and the Atlantic ocean. Among these plastics, styrofoam breaks into smaller parts, polystyrene components in it sink lower in the ocean.

The toxins released are dangerous for fish and humans. For example Diethylhexyl phthalate ( DEHP) contained in some plastics is a toxic carcinogen. These cause many diseases such as problem in hereditary, cancers and immune weakness etc.

Hence its high time to stop using plastic for every other product. There must be a proper disposal mechanism instead of throwing them into water bodies and effecting ourselves and marine animals

Proper actions should be taken misusing water bodies especially for throwing wastes.
