HUMANOID ROBOTICS: A BLESSING OF SCIENCE

Humanoid robotics is a boon of science and it is an emerging and challenging research field of technology and it will continue to play the most important and critical role in robotics research. Humanoid robots are the robots that look like humans and are designed like human. Humanoid robots are designed for interaction with human and their environment, for experimental and entertainment purposes, they are also used in our day to day life such as critical surgery, daily house works, ocean exploration, serving human beings as their companion and they can also be used in future dangerous missions and calamities. This makes our life more easier than before and this is only possible through the developing aspects of science and technology and the interest level of humanoid robotics research is increasing day by day.

Humanoid Robotics aim was to develop better orthosis and prosthesis for humans. With day to day development in the field of robotics it is expected by 2050 that a Humanoid Robot will be able to defeat the world's best soccer player. Before designing and producing a robot a deep research on human body is important so that it can lead to better development of humanoid robots.

Beside planning and control, sensors play a vital role in the field of humanoid robotics. In humanoid robotics two types of sensors are mainly used and they are:

1.Proprioceptive Sensors: This types of sensors are Used to sense the position and the speed of joints and body of humanoid robot.

2.Exteroceptive Sensors: This types of sensors are used to recognize objects.

There are many humanoid robots that are famous for their work and design, some are mentioned below:

a.ATLAS UNPLUGGED: It was developed by Boston Dynamics a d U.S Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in the year 2013 and its purpose is to search and rescue.

b.ASIMO: It was developed by Honda in the year 2000 and it's main purpose is to interact with human beings.

c.ICUB: It was developed by Italian Institute of Technology in the year 2009 and its main purpose is to research on human cognition.

d.POPPY: It was developed by Inria in the year 2013 and its purpose is to mimic human movements.

e.ROMEO: It was developed by Softbank Robotics in the year 2012 and its purpose is to interact with human.

f.PETMAN: It was developed by Boston Dynamics and its purpose is to test chemical designed clothes.

g. NAO: It was developed by Softbank Robotics in the year 2008 and its purpose is to entertain.

h. ROBOTHESPIAN: It was developed by Engineering Arts Limited and its purpose is to interact in public environments.

i.ACTROID-SIT: It was developed by Osaka University and its purpose is to interact with human beings.

j. LEXY and TESS: It was developed by Toboit Software and its purpose is to entertain.
