Nice article, very useful! :) I wouldn't say that the "UX is definitely not right" if there are tasks that take more than 3 clicks to complete, especially on complex platforms. Many studies show that the number of clicks isn't what really matters, but the entire flow. If the reason for the click is making sense to users, then they won't mind it. Also, security regulations and best practices sometimes force complex password requirements (not only in cases of "Pentagon data"). One way to ease the experience is to provide an SSO login for multiple platforms or "login without password" (one-time code request for email or mobile).

Hello, You have curated an extensive collection of quick tips, many of which are ones we should all follow if possible. I do want to point out the unreliability of the '3-clicks rule'. As designers we need to competently judge when to apply heuristics. There are times when the 3-click rule would be appropriate. If you have a broad IA for example. But many systems we design cannot be over-simplified to accommodate such an arbitrary rule.
