IoT - Internet of Things have become the hot topic in world of technology and has become the area with a broad area of application and study.
         Before understanding how IoT can be used in Home automation, let us first understand what IoT is.
Internet of Things in simple words can be explained as a network which can gather and exchange information from different appliances for more efficient and user centered usage of appliances.
        Coming to home automation, when we see the marvel movie IRONMAN series, the technology in house of Tony Stark might look exaggerated but it will become reality in coming years, that is home automation using IoT.
       Home automation helps us to have complete control all the appliances such as Refrigerator, Television,etc., and also includes doors,taps,etc., even in your absence. You can control the temperature of refrigerator, air conditioner, water heater,etc, with simple tap on your smartphone. You can receiver and control speed of your car and also receive messages every time a person enters your house or room.All it requires is some sensors such as temperature sensors, ultrasonic sensors, speed sensors, counters, etc., connected to a controller which connected to your smartphone through internet. The controller collects the data from the sensors and sends the required data to you. You can send a desired command to the controller. The controller will then send the signal switch on/off the device according to your command. 
         For all these process IoT needs two main verticals :
Cloud Computing : Data from sensors id collected on daily basis and is very massive, also this collected data needs to be kept in a secure storage server. This leads to need of cloud computing in IoT.
Networking Connections : In order to communicate, Internet connectivity is a must where each physical object is represented by an IP addresses available according to the IP naming. Due to the growing number of devices, this naming system is not feasible anymore. Therefore, researchers are looking for another alternative naming system represented each physical object. 
 Scientists believe in future IoT will have a broader area to operate and will have a much complex definition. 
 As of now they say IoT will change the world by "anytime, anyplace, anything in connectivity".
